Hedychium spicatum - Karpurkachari 75 mg - In preliminary pharmacological studies the drug is found to have a vasodilator effect on coronary vessels, mild hypertensive property and a non specific anti-spasmodic effect on smooth muscles. Studies on the essential oil (EO) of the rhizomes of Hedychium spicatum reveal that these oils possess a mild tranquilizing effect of short duration. They miserable the conditioned avoidance response, retard performance and potentated pento barbitone hypnosis and morphine analgesia in rats. The crude ethanolic extract of rhizomes possesses antiinflammatory and analgesic activity.
