Earaches are common and can happen to anyone. But mostly children are more prone to getting earaches. It is better to know what are the causes behind getting these ear pains and to know how to prevent them. Earaches can be very painful sometimes while sometimes they are not so painful. Due to the infection of ear causes earaches. Colds, allergies, infections of the middle ear, teeth problems, buildup of earwax, fluid in ears, sinus infections and ear injuries are some of the causes of earaches. You can also get earaches while traveling in the plane due to the changes in air pressure.
Preventing Earaches –
- Many people have the habit of putting cotton swabs, bobby pins and fingers in their ears. This can be very dangerous and can cause ear injuries, which will cause earaches. So avoid doing these things, instead you can visit your doctor and ask them to clean your ears.
- Be careful while blowing your nose. Blowing your nose gently will not cause earaches.
- When you go for swimming then put earplugs in your ears, as this will prevent the dirty water from entering in your ears.
- Smoking is bad for overall health and it can increase your chances of ear infections.
Treating Earaches -
- Hold a warm cloth or heating pad next to your ear. The heat therapy will reduce the earaches. You can also try the cold therapy by holding cold compress or ice bag next to your ear. Doing this for 20 minutes will give relief from earaches.
- You can take any pain killer like aspirin or ibuprofen. It will surely cure the pain. But if the pan is not going then consult your doctor.
- To cure the earaches while you are traveling in a plane, you should chew gum. This will prevent earaches form occurring. Try to be awake in plane mainly when the plane is landing or taking off.
- To reduce the earaches during plane travel, yawning is also one of the helpful techniques.
- Hold your both nostrils close and gently blow through your nose.
- If you are getting earaches due to cold, then go to your doctor and take treatment for cold.
- Take a hot shower bath, as this will make the earwax buildup soft.
How to know if your kid is having earache –
- If you notice excess of earwax or some fluid coming out from your kid's ears, then there are chances that your kid is contracting earache.
- If your child is crying without any reason, then he or she may be having earaches.
- If your baby is touching his or her ear often and crying then it might be also a sign that his or her ear is paining.
- If your trouble is not able to hear you then there are chances that he or she has got some ear infections.
- Your child is not eating anything then checks your baby's ears for any kind of sign of earache.
- If your baby has got fever, then it can also be a sign of earache.
- If your child is irritable, then also make sure that he or she is not having earaches.
