Osteoporosis results in fragile bones, as it is condition in which the normal density of bones reduces. The bones become very fragile and can break easily. Hence the patients of osteoporosis are more prone to having bone fractures. The normal contains of bone are calcium, protein and collagen. These three things give the strength to the bones and make them strong as bricks. But people with osteoporosis suffer the loss of bone density and hence minor injury also can lead them to bone fractures. The patients of osteoporosis can get stress fractures of the feet while walking or running. If such patients fall down, then they definitely get hip fractures. Due to the poor bone quality the fractures can take long time to heal and thus casing great levels of discomfort. Preventing bone fractures in Osteoporosis –
In osteoporosis treatment the main attention is given to preventing the bone fractures. For this medicines will be given to stop the loss of bone density and increase bone density and provide strength for the bones. If the disease will get detected fast then the treatment will be more effective too. There is no complete cure for osteoporosis but the disease can be brought under control with regular medication and by taking some precautions so that the bone fractures don’t happen.
Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, as they can speed the loss of bone density procedure and thus making you susceptible for bone fractures. You should focus on eating balanced diet that will give you lots of proteins and calcium. Vitamin D is also essential for preventing osteoporosis. Follow the medicines given by your doctor without fail, as it will stop the loss of bone density and increase the bone strength. Exercise daily so that your body remains fit and you don’t suffer from loss of bone density. But exercising will not increase your bone density. The exercising will help you to balance properly and thus prevent you from falling down.
But there is no surety about, which exercise is good in osteoporosis. Hence till the time some strong research is done in this regard you will have to follow your instinct while doing exercising.
