You might have seen the stage makeup and like many other people, you too might have felt that the makeup is too loud and thick. But when you see the artist performing on the stage, you don’t find the makeup too dark with all those bright stage lights. The main reason for this is, in the presence of the bright stage lights, the dark makeup appears to be faded out. Like other makeup procedures the procedure for stage makeup is also very much same. The only difference is that al the cosmetics are used in more quantity while doing the stage makeup.
The foundation is applied in very thick layer on the face. The foundation is also chosen in such a way that it is one shade darker than the skin tone of the person applying this makeup. In case it is difficult to find the one shade darker foundation then two different shades of foundation are blended on the skin. In this case first the light shade of the foundation is applied on the skin and then the dark shade is applied. The foundation has to be applied on the forehead and then proper precaution is taken to blend this foundation up to the hairline. The foundation is also applied on the neck or else the makeup will not look real. If the makeup has to be done on the man, then the foundation is applied on his back also. On the nose and the chin a lighter shade of foundation is applied for getting the perfect stage makeup kind of look.
After applying the foundation, a rose color blush is applied on the cheekbone and this blush has to be of lighter shade in case the makeup is being done on a male. The blush has to be properly spread over the cheeks so that it meets the area near ears. The blush has to be also slightly blended over the nose and forehead. The main rule for choosing blush is darker shade for women and lighter shade for men. Eye makeup is the next step of stage makeup. Below the eyebrow of the person who is undergoing the makeup procedure a white color highlighter is applied, this will make the eyebrows of the person clearly visible to the audience. After this lighter shade of eye shadow is applied on the eyelids first and then one shade darker eye shadow is applied. Here too for women darker shades and for men lighter shades of eye shadow are used. Mascara is applied on the eyelashes for completing the eye makeup.
Lipstick is also an important part of stage makeup. For men, a lip color is chosen in such a way that it is one shade darker than their usual lip color. First the boundary of the lip is defined using a lip liner and then the lip color is filled within this boundary. Lipstick is applied in two to three coats, so that it lasts longer and can be seen by all the audience. While applying lip color on men more precaution has to be taken or they will look made up. When you will see this makeup from close, you will find it too loud and garish but on stage with the proper stage lights, you will end up complementing the actors for their makeup.
