The idea of enhancing the look of one’s face by adding a mask on it has existed since age old times when tribal people from Africa, Australia and even the Red Indians used various types of masks in order to look more ‘attractive’. Since people wear them to parties, there are certain ways in which they are embellished. Adding glitter onto them is one of the commonest ways. Most fashion masks used today do not have permanent attachments over the face. They may have rubber bands to fix them behind the head, or they may simply have a short handle to hold the mask over the eyes. Different versions of the masks exist, and people use them according to what they prefer. Most people like to keep the masks on their faces only for a little while and then they make do with them when the parties begin to progress. At such occasions, the ‘holding’ masks become more convenient rather than the ones that needs to be attached.

Fashion masks find their place in carnival events in a big way. The Mardi Gras is the biggest example of this, where almost everyone, performers and spectators alike, are dressed in masks. Various carnivals across the world use fashion masks for their performers in various ways.
The fun part, according to most people, is in adorning the masks. Some of the accoutrements that go with these masks can be quite elaborate. The commonest ones are feathers. Even large bird feathers, such as those of the ostrich, are used. The feathers add a completely different grace to the masks. Some people also add cutout decorations, such as stars, hearts, lips, etc. on the fashion masks to make them look more chic.

Fashion masks are meant to give a whole new look to the person but, more than that, they are used to give a whole new personification to their character. Use one at an appropriate event and see the great deal of difference it makes to your personality.
