Dry eyes are one of the common symptoms of early menopause phase and menopause phase and almost all the ladies have to face this uncomfortable situation. Though many women don’t consider it as a sign of menopause, as due to many other reasons of they get dry eyes. Hence they think that it is properly normal and don’t even consider treating this condition. But there are treatments to cure dry eyes problem.
Symptoms of Dry Eyes –
Due to dry eyes, you might experience several symptoms like itching of the eyes, urge to scratch the eyes, need to rub eyes and no control over tear duct. You will also look tired even after taking a good 8 hours sleep. Your eyes will start burning with smoke, wind and even slightest air movement. Sometimes you may also have gristly mucus in your eyes. Causes of Dry Eyes -
Due to the low production of oil in the meibomian gland and due to the excessive evaporation of tears, dryness of the eyes increases. Hence these two are the main causes of dry eyes. The way you live your life also plays an important role in causing dry eyes. While reading or while working on computer, you don’t blink your eyes enough then this could also cause dryness of the eyes. If you wear contact lenses, then these lenses also can cause dryness of the eyes by absorbing the fluids present in the eyes. Certain medications and birth control pills also cause dry eyes.
Diabetes, arthritis and lupus are some of the diseases that can cause dry eyes. As a woman approaches pre-menopausal phase, the hormone levels fluctuate often. If the estrogen is produced in more quantity then the tear production will be less and thus it can cause dry eyes. Hence hormonal imbalance is one of the major causes of dry eyes. As you know fish is very good for eyes, as it has Omega 3. Mainly mackerel, salmon and tuna are very good source of Omega 3 and thus eating these things can solve the problems related with eyes. The same Omega 3 is found in nuts and seeds and hence vegetarian people also can include these things in their diet.
Treatments of Dry Eyes –
Dry eyes can be easily treated with the help of eye drops. Also including Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish, seeds and nuts is also beneficial for treating dry eyes, as it increases the production of oil. You should undergo physical exam to know about your hormonal balance almost every year after the age of forty. While reading and while working on computer blink your eyes often, as this will keep your eyes moist. Drink plenty of water to fulfill your body's water requirement.
