Eye Strain - Eye Pain

Many people believe that if they will read in dim lights then it will ruin their eyesight. This is so because they have heard their parents and grandparents saying them not to read in dim lights. This same thing they teach their kids and thus this very old saying is still doing the rounds in each and every corner of the world. Eyestrain does not mean eye pain. Eyes can work efficiently for 24 hours a day. But you might be thinking if this is the case then why your eyes start paining when you work on computer for long hours. But the eye paining can also be witnessed while doing other works like reading, studying, etc. Hence even if there are full lights you can have eyestrain that can result in eye pain.

If you will take care of your eyes by following the advice given below then you can prevent your eyes form eyestrain and eye pain.

  • Regular eye exercises – Regular eye exercises will help you take off the eyestrain and thus prevent you from getting eye pain. You can do these eye exercises in between your work by taking break of 5 to 10 minutes. You can even try doing eye Yoga, which will sooth your eyes and make them relaxed. There are several eye exercises that you can do. You can get to know about these exercises with the help of the information available over the Internet.
  • Take care to have adequate lighting – In order to prevent your eyes form eyestrain, you should take care to work in a place where there will be adequate lighting. That doesn't mean that you have to use high-intensity lamps. Make sure that your lamps are bright and don’t give your eyes a cause for paining.
  • Regular eye checkups – In case you experience eyestrain and eye pain then it is better to check your eyes. It is also good for eyes health if you can do regular eye checkups. The doctors will find out in case your eyes are having some eye condition that is making your eyes pain due to strain.
  • Proper way of reading – Many people like to read while lying down on the bed. But this is not good, as it puts extra pressure on their eyes and cause eye pain. The distance between the book and your eyes should not less or more. You should hold the book so that the book remains parallel to your eyes.
  • Taking adequate sleeps – This is one of the very important things that you have to do in order to ensure that your eyesight remains perfect. The main cause of eye pain is that your eyes are not getting proper rest. For good night's sleep, you should sleep for about 7 to 8 hours. Many people have the habit of watching too much television and spend their midnight hours watching something on the television, which affects their sleep. Due to spending many sleepless nights, you can get various eye related problems.
