Causes of Glaucoma -
- Those who take steroids are more prone to getting this condition. But diabetic people and people having other such diseases are also prone to getting glaucoma. If in past, you had undergone any surgery related with eyes, then you have strong chances of getting this condition. Other chronic eye diseases also responsible for damaging the optic nerve and thus causing glaucoma condition.
- With growing age the chances of glaucoma also increases. That is you are more prone to getting glaucoma, if you are old. Old age will bring so many other eye related issues also.
- There are hereditary causes also. That means if anyone in your family had this condition then your chances of having it are more too.
- African- Americans are more prone to getting glaucoma in early age, starting at 45.
Types of Glaucoma and their symptoms -
- Chronic Glaucoma – It is the most dangerous one among other types of glaucoma. There are no symptoms of this condition in its early stage, only when the peripheral vision gets affected then the person will come to know about this condition. By this time the damage is much more and hence it will beyond repair.
- Narrow-Angle Glaucoma – There are no symptoms of this condition in the initial stage and the person will realize about their condition when the condition reaches in its peak stage.
- Closed-Angle Glaucoma – The symptoms of this type of glaucoma are headaches, eye pain, nausea and vomiting.
- Congenital glaucoma – It occurs in children and damages their vision. There are no symptoms of this condition and it is very difficult to know this condition before it causes the damage to the vision of the affected child.
Preventing Glaucoma -
Take care of your eyes by all means. Eat good balanced and nutritious food. Increase the intake of food that will give you vitamin A, C, E and zinc. These things can reduce the risk of glaucoma. Apart from these things there is nothing that you can do to prevent glaucoma.
