Almost everyone has heard the name brain haemorrhage but apart from the name they no nothing about this condition. Brain haemorrhage is life threatening and serious condition in which the blood vessels over the surface of the brain start leaking. There are very less chances that if anyone in your family had brain haemorrhage then you will also have it. In short brain haemorrhage is not inherited. But here too there can be exception and hence it is better to let your doctor know about your family's medical history.
If the brain haemorrhage has happened not due to any injury to your skull, then the reason behind it will be weakened and damaged blood vessels. These damaged blood vessels will start bleeding around the brain. This bleeding can increase the pressure within the skull and also disrupts the normal blood supply to the brain. But in case the bleeding is happening deep within the brain then it can be more dangerous. This will cause sudden loss of neurological function in any part of the body resulting in stroke or collapse.
If the bleeding is happening on the surface of the brain then it could cause headaches, vomiting and increase the sensitivity towards light. This can further result in coma or collapse. The symptoms in each patient of haemorrhage will be different but overall these symptoms can be seen predominantly. In many cases the weak blood vessels with weak walls are present since birth while in some the blood vessels will become weak due to smoking, high blood pressure and the clogging of the arteries. There are chances of no symptoms and sudden collapse in case of subarachnoid haemorrhage. The common symptoms of brain haemorrhage are vomiting, signs of meningitis, neck stiffness, confused feeling and unconsciousness.
If you will go to the hospital then the doctors will diagnose haemorrhage with the help of a CT scan of the brain. If you had the bleeding first time then your chances of bleeding in future also increases if you will not treat the condition fast. Surgery is the only option in which the skull will be opened and the faulty blood vessels will be clipped off. The doctors will advice for this operation as early as possible to avoid further damage to the brain. This operation is called as clipping and in elderly patients doctor will give few weeks time before doing this surgery. There is one more technique known as endovascular detachable coil treatment. In this method a detachable plantinum coil is inserted into the faulty blood vessel with the help of small cut on the skin mostly groin. With the help of X-ray this coil is then put to block off the damaged blood vessel.
The method of inserting coil in the faulty blood vessel has also proved to be effective in many patients. This surgery has lower risks of complications and there is a greater chance of survival with this treatment. The recovery will be slow in both these treatment options. Physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, these are some of the rehabilitation therapies that the patient will have to follow in order to have speedy recovery.
