Having increased head or body hair is termed as hairiness or hirsutism. In this condition abnormal hair growth can be seen where there are not supposed to be any hairs. There are hereditary reasons behind getting hairiness. Hence hirsutism is a normal abnormality that can be seen in all the family members. This problem is more troublesome in women, as women tend to get body hair on such places where generally men have body hair. For example upper lip, chin hairs, chest mainly the area surrounding the nipples, lower abdomen and the shoulders are present in women with the problem of hairiness.
Having body hair is not something abnormal because everyone has about 2 million hairs present on the body out of which only hundred thousand are present on the scalp. In short the hair are present on the entire body except the palms, soles of the feet and the lips. The excess hairs present in women at the abnormal places mentioned above are coarse and appear dark. These hairs grow fast and thus create several embarrassing moments for women. The hairs on upper lip are the fastest growing hairs in women suffering with hairiness. The main cause behind hairiness in women is the presence of male hormone in their body. Women have small amount of testosterone flowing in their body but the problem starts when the levels of this hormone are high.
Hairiness can also be caused due to polycystic ovary syndrome; this is caused by the imbalance between pituitary and adrenal glands. This is responsible for increasing the presence of male hormone in the female body. This condition is very common in teenagers and in those who are in their late twenties. The polycystic ovary syndrome runs in the families and passed from one generation to the other. An ultrasound of ovaries and blood tests are used to diagnose this condition. There are several symptoms that will indicate that you have this condition present in you. These symptoms are acne, greasy hair, obesity, excess hair, irregular periods and difficulty to get pregnant.
The excess male hormones present in the female body can be an indication of tumor also. Tumor of ovaries or of adrenal glands can increase the chances of hairiness in women. If you have many hairs on your upper lip, then you can bleach them so that they will not appear to others. Any bleach containing hydrogen peroxide cream is good for bleaching these hairs. Skin irritation can occur after applying the bleach but that is normal. You can also take help of hair removing creams to get rid from the unwanted hairs. But make sure that your skin is not getting hurt in any way due to several chemicals present in such creams.
There are several others ways also to get rid from the hairiness. Like you can thread, wax or pluck your body hairs. These methods are painful but are safe, as they don’t involve any chemicals. The only hitch here is it is not a permanent solution and you will have to repeat it whenever your hair reappears.
