Dermatitis is also known as Eczema and it is a kind of skin inflammation. Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of dermatitis but there are several other kinds of dermatitis. Dermatitis can affect people belonging to any age, sex and religion. Infants are the main victims of this skin condition. Most of the cases in which infants get dermatitis will get cured on their own by the time the kid become three years old. But in some cases this skin conditions doesn’t get cured and the affected child gets recurring dermatitis throughout his or her life.
If in your family anyone suffered from dermatitis then your chances of getting this condition are also high. Twenty percent of the children and two percent of the adults can get this skin condition through their genes. The low immunity levels are believed to be the number one cause for this skin condition. Many times it is also caused due to allergy of your skin to the use of cosmetics, soaps, clothes, sweat, detergents and jewelry. If you have allergy to some of the environmental allergens then also it can cause dermatitis in you. Stress, changes in the temperature and changes in the humidity are also some of the other causes for the outbreak of this skin condition.
Symptoms of Dermatitis -
As mentioned above there are several types of dermatitis, hence the symptoms will depend on which type of dermatitis you are suffering from. The symptoms are different in different people but overall itching, burning sensations and reddened skin are some of the common symptoms of dermatitis. The constant itching can lead to blisters formations or lesions formation.
The scratching will also make your skin crusty and thick. The main regions of body where this skin condition can occur are neck, face, knees, inside of the elbows and ankles. In infants dermatitis can be seen on the cheeks, forehead, neck and scalp. These symptoms get vanished without any treatment but in case of chronic dermatitis only medical treatments can give you complete cure form this skin condition.
Types of Dermatitis -
- Atopic Dermatitis – Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of dermatitis and many people get confused between the two. It is a chronic skin condition in which the victim suffers from serious itching and inflammation of the skin. The abnormal immune system is the main reason behind this skin condition. Depending upon the triggers this condition can recur several times. If this condition is seen in infants then it is called as infantile eczema. Allergy conditions and family history are the two things that can cause you this kind of dermatitis.
- Contact Dermatitis – Whenever the skin comes in contact with the allergen redness, burning and itching can be experienced in this kind of dermatitis. If you have allergy to some cosmetics, jewelry, clothing or detergents then also you can get this condition whenever your skin will come in contact with these allergens. As there are several things that can cause contact dermatitis, knowing you skin is allergic to what is a difficult thing.
