Discoloration of skin means the tone and the texture of the skin changes. There may be natural discoloration of skin related to birthmarks, moles, or it may be due to over exposure to sun or some injury. Discoloration may lead to a darker or lighter tone of the skin. Two diseases can lead to discoloration of the skin:
Tinea versicolor -
Tinea versicolor, is the result of skin infection. It is a fungal infection. This fungus feeds on the natural oils of the skin and dead skin cells. It can spread to a large area of the skin.
Some part of the skin becomes lighter or darker in color.
Vitiligo –
Light or white colored spots appear on the skin due to loss of pigmentation. It is a genetic disease. Those having weaker immune system are affected by vitiligo. This disease spreads when the person is reaches adolescence. In case you suspect that you are having discoloration of skin, seek doctor’s help immediately.
Few of the remedial steps for skin discoloration are as under:
- Kojic Acid - Kojic acid has a calming effect. It is prepared from a fungus. It was found in Japan. It helps in regaining the lost color of the skin. It is mild in nature.
- Alpha hydroxyl Acid - It help in doing away with the dead cells of the skin faster and lightens the spots as well.
- Hydroquinon - It is also good medicine. But some may experience irritation on the body.
Some home remedies can particularly be helpful:
- Mix honey, limejuice and few drops of milk and apply on the discolored area of the skin. It acts as natural bleach and improves the skin texture.
- Scrub the skin at regular intervals to do away with the dead cells.
- Improve you immune system by adding lots of fresh fruits and green vegetables to your diet.
- Avoid going out in the sun in the afternoons. Use a sunscreen to protect your skin from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Protect the skin under your eye by wearing glares.
- Citrus fruits, apples are a good source of anti oxidants and help prevent discoloration of the skin.
In case you have some skin disease, then the home remedies may not be of any help. Seek medical advice. The doctor may prescribe a cream to cure the discoloration of skin.
- Check whether the cream suits you and does not cause any irritation.
- Maintain a healthy life style. Exercise regularly, sleep well and sleep early. Add food rich in vitamin B to your diet. Barley, oats are rich in vitamin B. Eat food rich in folic acid.
- Consult your doctor first before experimenting with your skin with any medications.
- Drink lots of water. It helps in cleaning the body internally and protects the skin from drying.
