Impetigo is a skin condition that is caused due to bacterial infection and it is highly contagious condition. Impetigo mainly affects children in the age group of three to six years. Initially tiny red blisters start appearing around the mouth and nose of the child and when these tiny blisters break the affected area gets covered with crusty yellow layers. The fluid that is present inside these blisters is known as Bullous Impetigo. In some cases if the blisters are large, the time taken by them to break open is more.
Depending upon the symptoms of Impetigo there are three types of this skin condition - Bullous Impetigo, Non Bullous Impetigo and Ecthyma. The Staphylococcus Aureus can easily penetrate the breakage in the skin and cause impetigo. The breakage in the skin can be caused due to insect bites, wounds or due to weakening of the skin. This bacterium then damages the protein binding of the skin and also multiplies and spreads to other parts of the skin. If a person touches, holds the belongings of the infected person, then this infection can get passed on to him or her also.
If you have pimples which are surrounded by reddish looking skin and the lesions filled with pus, then within five to six days these lesions will break open and the crust will start covering the affected area. This is the beginning of the skin condition called impetigo. Impetigo is a skin infection that can happen mostly on the face and the hands. This condition is common during summer and most of the school age children get it during summer time. You will need to take care that your children maintains proper hygiene. The infection can pass from your children to you also and hence it is your responsibility to check about the cleanliness of your child.
In your house make sure that there is no place to unhygienic things. Make sure that your children don’t scratch any of his or her injuries or wounds. You can avoid bacterial infection by taking this care. The impetigo can be treated with the help of antibiotics. The antibiotics will help in reducing the rashes from the affected area and will also kill the bacteria causing impetigo. As mentioned earlier this is a skin condition that mainly affects nose, mouth and hands and forearms. So make sure that any kind of rashes on these parts should be not neglected and bought into attention of your doctor.
If the impetigo is caused by group A streptococcus then tiny blisters with pus in it will appear on your skin, soon these blisters will break and your skin will get covered with yellowish crust. But if the impetigo is caused by staphylococcus aureus then the blisters will be larger and have more pus filled in them. These kinds of blisters will not burst and remain intact. A it is a contagious skin condition make sure that you don’t touch other body parts after touching the affected skin parts. Wash your hands before and after touching these blisters.
