Moles are a common skin condition and there is rarely anyone who doesn’t have moles. Moles can be termed as bunch of pigmented cells. Moles are small in size and can appear on face, legs, on arms and in fact on any part of the skin except on scalp, armpits, between fingers and toes and below the nails. The coloring tendency of moles is different at different places of the skin. Moles can last for about 50 years then slowly they start to fade. This is a harmless skin condition but sometimes it can get cancerous.
Common Causes of Moles -
Melanin is the skin pigment, which is responsible for giving our skin color. This skin pigment is present in cells called as Melanocytes and these cells are present in the upper layer of the skin that is epidermis and it is also present in the second layer of the skin that is dermis. From melanocytes cells melanin comes on the surface of the skin and then it gets evenly distributed on the skin. But in some cases when melanocytes cells come together in bunch then they are responsible for causing moles.
But nothing much is known about moles like why they are caused and what is the purpose of these moles. Some of these moles known as dysplastic nevi can get converted in cancerous tumors and one need to provide proper attention to them. These moles are more commonly seen on the back of men and women.
Common Symptoms of Moles -
In the initial days when the moles appear the affected skin part has plain and brown spots. These spots vary in color, shape and size. Most of the times the moles look similar to that of the skin color. Soon these moles appear dark brown in color or blue in color. The shape of moles can be round or oval. These moles can be as small as a pinhead or as big so as to cover the entire limb. Many times these moles are present since birth. Such moles can sometimes lead to serious problems.
Those moles that are present since birth should be removed as early as possible as in later age they can pose serious threats. This can also lead to skin cancers. The moles are either flat or somewhat raised in appearance. Some of these moles get vanished on their own while some become very big and get rubbed often. The moles get fully developed by the age of 20. These moles will become dark in color and appear large in size as they grow. Due to hormonal changes in the body when women are pregnant or when they are taking birth control pills the moles can increase in number.
