Skin Discoloration means difference in the tone of the skin. Certain skin discoloration may be natural due to birthmarks or due to over exposure to sun. - Kojic Acid: Kojic acid is a natural product made from a fungus. Its discovery was made in Japan. It acts in the formation of pigment is soft on the skin. It has a soothing effect.
- Use of Alpha hydroxy acids may help in removing dead or old cells faster and can also help lighten up age spots as well.
- Hydroquinon is also good. However it may cause skin irritation.

- You can use sour milk or yogurt on skin. When the milk or yogurt dries, scrub it off gently. This helps in removing the dead cells of the skin and allows for its rejuvenation.
- Vitamin C has proven track record for skin rejuvenation. Eat fruits in plentiful. Fruits such as apples, citrus fruits like oranges, sweet lime, amla can help the skin against sunrays.
- Cucumber has a soothing effect on skin. It acts as a coolant.
These home remedies are useful only when the skin discoloration is not because of any skin disease. In other cases, consult a dermatologist for medical help. The doctor may suggest use of a topical cream to reduce the discoloration. Before using any cream, check for its side effects. Use the cream on a portion of your skin to check for any irritation, only then apply to the entire area. Follow the instructions as regards dosage. Eat a healthy balanced diet rich in folic acid. Folic acid is found in abundance in leafy vegetables, whole wheat, oats and barley. These are a good source of Vitamin B, and helps in keeping the skin healthy. Consult your doctor first before experimenting with your skin with any medications. Drink plenty of fluids. It keeps the skin supple and soft and keeps away from drying.
