Warts

Warts – What are they?

Warts are considered to be one of the most ungainly things that can happen on the human body. People try all kinds of methods to remove them from their skin. Actually, there are methods to remove warts from the skin completely, but they all require patience.

These warts are small tumors that are present on the skin. In most cases, the warts are noncancerous. Most of these are caused due to a viral infection, the human papillomavirus (HPV) being the culprit.

Based on their shapes, there are many different types of warts. The following is a list of some of the warts that are commonly complained about:-

  • Common Warts – These occur mostly on the limbs. They are identified by their rough top surface, which is elevated from the normal level of the skin.
  • Filiform Warts – These are very thin warts that occur on delicate parts of the body such as on the lips or on the eyelids.
  • Genital Warts – As the name suggests, this wart makes its appearance on the genitals.
  • Plantar Warts – They appear on the feet, especially on the soles. They are typified by the sharp pains that they can cause at times.
  • Flat Warts – These warts are not elevated. They are identified by their rough surface.

Warts – Common Symptoms

Warts usually appear as tiny bumps on the surface of the skin. They can be of different colors, but most of them are skin-colored. A few of them are smooth, but the majority of them are rough to the touch.

These warts usually make their appearance on hands, feet and even the face, but they can usually occur anywhere on the body because of the many classifications.

Warts – Causes

Warts occur because of a viral infection. If the person has a direct contact with the human papillomavirus (HPV), then the chances of developing a wart are quite high. Warts are also contagious; they can be transferred from one person to another.

Warts – Risk Factors

People who are in constant communication with someone suffering from warts are likely to develop the condition themselves because of its contagiousness. People with a weak immune system are more likely to develop warts. Some habits, such as biting nails, can cause warts to happen in a particular area, such as in the fingernails in this instance.

Warts – Treatment

Since warts are noncancerous and nonthreatening in every way, they do not call for treatment. However, since they don’t look so good on the face, people try removing them.

People try various methods at a household level to remove their warts. One of the ways is to put duct tape on the skin and then pull it out forcibly. But this is a painful method. Another method that is used is to dab the wart with some salicylic acid.

For obstinate warts, various medical methods are used. One of these methods is cryotherapy. Here, the wart is first frozen with liquid nitrogen, which then helps it to gradually be removed from the skin. Other methods that are used for wart removal include laser operations, cantharidin treatments, etc.
