One of the most beautiful and precious phases in a woman’s life is childbirth. It is a stage where a woman transforms into a mother. As natural the transformation may be, it instills the fear of the unknown into would be mothers. If it is the first time for the women then she even fears more about the safety of her and her baby.
The mother to be should relish every single moment. After all, she is going to give birth to a new being, a part of her own self. Just as we begin a journey with some planning, you should plan ahead and keep things ready before your bundle of joy enters the world. Small things like clothes for the newborn, few baby toys, readying the room where you plan to keep your new born etc are a few steps that will help you relieve some of the tension of the child birth.
As the due date gets closer, there will be pain in the back and you experience the baby kicking more often. Some women prefer delivery to be natural since it is considered safe and will cause no harm to the child. This does not mean that the labor pain should be endured. There are ways of reducing the pain. Taking short breathes during contraction help in relieving the pain. Light soft music also relaxes the mind and takes your mind off the pain. Stretching also helps relieve the pain. Thinking about the arrival of your baby also keeps the mind off the pain.
Then comes the final day when your days of anticipation and anxiety get over and you have your little one in your arms. After the initial euphoria of the child birth subsides, then starts the real problem of dealing with the little darling. Mothers are suddenly burdened with the responsibility of knowing and understanding the needs of the little one. Changing nappies, irregular sleeps, feeding the baby after every 2 or 3 hours, visiting the doctor for vaccination all creates pressure on the mother. Sometimes the baby gets cranky and mother does not understand why the baby is crying. All this put tremendous pressure on the mother. At such time, the mother should be patient and deal with every situation with planning.
The mother should eat nutritious food because she will now need more energy. Eat the food that is easily digestible. If the mother is breast-feeding, the mother should be more cautious in what she eats. If she eats something that is not easily digestible, then the baby might develop upset stomach, so be careful in what you eat. Drink ample water and fluids to supplement the loss of water from the body. Most mothers feel parched while they are feeding the baby. Keep a jug full of water ready in your room. Keep all the baby medicines, drops etc handy. Try to catch on some sleep while your child is sleeping. Plan your work and sleep properly so that you too can get rest while your baby is sleeping.
