Oil is excellent for the skin, providing it with needed nutrients, lubrication, and protection. It is also the ideal carrier for herbal compounds and essential oils.
Select the base oil according to constitution and condition.
- For VATA or dry skin, use sesame, avocado ail or ghee.
- For PITTA or oily skin, use sunflower, safflower, safflower, or coconut oil
- For KAPHA or moist, sluggish skin, use almond or olive oil.
Jojoba oil is good for all skin types. It is absorbed quickly, leaving very little residue. Its one drawback is that it is the most expensive.
To enrich the base oil, for every ten parts of base oil add 1 part of Wheat Germ or Vitamin E oil. For Vata or dry skin, select the following mixtures:
- Sandalwood, geranium, ylang ylang, rosewood
- Rose, jasmine, geranium
- Cedarwood, sandalwood, rosewood
For Pitta or oily skin, select the following mixtures:
- Lemon, cypress
- Bergamot, orange, geranium
- Cypress, juniper
For Kapha or mature skin, select the following mixtures:
- Lavender, frankincense or myrrh, neroli,
- Patchouli, frankincense
- Geranium, jasmine
If inflammation is present, select mixtures of:
- Roman chamomile, lavender
- Sandalwood, cedarwood,
- Rosewood, neroli, rose
If the skin is much wrinkled, select the following mixtures:
- Fennel, lavender, rose,
- Frankincense, cypress
If there is deep acne, select one of the following mixtures:
- Bergamot, juniper, cypress,
- Tea tree, lavender
