Preparing Yourself To Give Massage

When massaging somebody else, you must keep in mind that everything you are thinking and feeling will be converse to the person you are working with through simply touching of your fingers to their skin. To make the massage of most benefit it is significant to try and keep your thoughts pure and your intentions always for the highest good. To help you do this, take a few minutes for yourself previous to any massage work to tranquil your body and clear your mind.

Start by sitting comfortably with your back straight. Tuck the chin in a little to release strain in your neck. Place your tongue just behind your front teeth and gently gather in and out. Your minds follow the outward breath and naturally relax as your inhale. Bend the elbows, bringing your hands to the level of your heart. Let your shoulder melt and drop towards the floor. Unwind your hands to form a gentle cup shape. Imagine your hands are being filled with intense light condense from the heavens. Allow the light to flow through your hands, elbows, and shoulders, then towards your heart in a clear stream. Feel the light filling your heart and accept the strength and joy it brings. Let this sensation fill your whole body. Rest in that space, letting your mind notice each and every part of your body and all you thoughts and feelings.

When you are prepared, rub the backs of your hands energetically, and then rub your palms together for a few moments. Cup your hands in front of you, yet not touching- as if holding a ball and feel the energy between your fingers. Direct your mind to the benefit of your friend, remembering it is not you, but the clear energy of the universe working through you that really does the work. Be relevant warm oil to your hands and when your friend is ready, begin.

Along with this clear and optimistic mental state of mind, you will do your best work when you feel balanced both mentally and physically, so take time to take care of yourself. At the same time, massage is a two – way business. In the process of engaging the recipient of your massage, persuade them to feel bodily contented and be opening, trusting in your work.

After the massage, both giver and the receiver should rest for a concise period to once again gather and balance the energy in both of your bodies. For the giver, a high energy snack of warm milk, nuts, and dates. And raisins may also be taken to ensure that there is no overall loss of vital energy.

Allow your instinct to guide the rhythm and pressure of the massage. Focus on staying relaxed. Individual constitutional types will generally prefer and benefit from different styles of treatment.

Vata people enjoy subtle energy work: light touch, warmth, and gentleness. When talking to them, be soft, helpful and use feeling tones and music. (A sample dialogue for Vata types using imagery-----“Allow you to float back and enjoy the warmth and aroma of the oil. Let it caress your face and melt away your tensions, taking you to a quiet, still, and creative space within.”)

Pitta people enjoy direct, firm, cool and refreshing touch. They also enjoy logical explanations of the work and color-visual imagery. (A sample dialogue for Pitta types using imagery….. “Lay back. Notice each point where your body touches the table. Allow a cool blue light to pass through you, relieving your tensions and transporting you to a place among loving frients, filled with soft colors and comfortable sensations.”)

Kapha people benefit most from firm, deeply stimulating touch. They need to be motivated to keep in touch with the massage process rather than drift into sleep. Any insights you share with them will go deep and be long lasting. (A sample dialogue for Kapha types using imagery….. “Allow my touch to gradually penetrate deep into your tissues bringing with it a sense of light, fresh, tingling , dancing energy to awaken and inspire your sincere thoughts and sensations.”)
