There are 7 (seven) dhatus (tissues) or body tissues that give shape and form to the body. These 7 (seven) are
- Rasa dhatus (tissues) (tissue fluids),
- Rakta dhatus (tissues) (red blood cells),
- Mamsa dhatus (tissues) (skeletal muscle),
- Meda dhatus (tissues) (fat and connective tissue),
- Asthi dhatus (tissues) (bones),
- Majja dhatus (tissues) (bone marrow), and
- Shukra dhatus (tissues) (reproductive tissue).
Their nature is to nourish and hold up one another, rasa dhatus (tissues) nourishing rakta dhatus (tissues), rakta dhatus (tissues) nourishing mamsa dhatus (tissues), and so on. So, if a problem exists in one of the 7 (seven) dhatus, those down the line also start to suffer, as they are also not being correctly supported.
Each of the dhatus (tissues) also nourishes and supports a supplementary tissue or upadhatu and produce waste products or malas. The upadhatus neither nourish each other nor any other tissue for that matter. The associations between dhatus, upadhatus, and malas are as follows. What will also be included here are the ways the dhatus sway our overall physiological being.
- Rasa dhatus (tissues) supports colostrums and menstrual blood and produces mucous as waste. As it obtain nutrients from the digestive process, Rasa helps to nurture the entire body.
- Rakta dhatus (tissues) supports the blood vessels and tendons and manufacture bile as waste. It also brings oxygen to the tissues and takes carbon dioxide (CO2) away, bracing the entire body.
- Mamsa dhatus (tissues) supports subcutaneous fat and the skin and produces wastes emitted from the body’s orifices. As mamsa dhatus (tissues) is linked with skeletal muscles, it is answerable for giving the body its smooth contours.
- Meda dhatus (tissues) supports fat and flat muscles, producing sweat as waste. Being slippery in nature, meda dhatus (tissues) is responsible for lubrication within the body.
- Asthi dhatus (tissues) supports teeth and produces body hair, beard and nails as waste it makes the supportive structure for the musculature
- Majja dhatus (tissues) supports head hair and helps produce mother’s milk as its waster or by – product. Majja is what helps to fill in the spaces of the body.
- Shukra supports ojas, the glow of health and produces no wastes. It is accountable for reproduction.
To understand the connection between the dhatus (tissues) and upadhatus and wastes, let us take an example : skin.
Skin is called the cream of rasa dhatus (tissues), but in fact rasa dhatus (tissues), rakta dhatus (tissues), and mamsa dhatus (tissues) have to be in good condition to produce beautiful skin. Good digestion and correct selection of foods decide the health of rasa dhatus (tissues). Mineral – rich foods and a good provide of oxygen and lack of toxins in the blood determines the health of rakta dhatus (tissues). Clean, well nourished blood and regular exercise supports the health of mamsa dhatus (tissues). Thus, diet, digestion, air, and exercise can be seen to be important in the condition of the skin. This is how a information of dhatus (tissues) helps us understand how to bring beauty to a particular tissue. If this does not occur, examining the upadhatus and malas can prove useful in finding which of the dhatus (tissues) needs notice.
Let’s take another example: nails.
The condition of asthi dhatu decide the condition of the nails in that mineral rich food that nourishes bone tissue also produces gleaming teeth and strong nails. Yet, as asthi dhatus (tissues) is supported by other dhatus, problems in the nails can reflect problems in rasa rakta dhatus (tissues), mamsa dhatus (tissues) or meda dhatus (tissues) – those that support asthi dhatus (tissues). This explains how nails can be examined to determine the internal state of the body. For example, vertical ridges on the nails show mal-absorption, a problem in rasa dhatus (tissues)
As look upon other aspects of physical beauty, strong majja dhatus (tissues) produces strong, glossy hair – a usually accepted sign of good health. And, the product of shukra dhatus (tissues) that is the glow of vitality, ojas, is needy on the health of all the tissues in the body which is why we can say that internal health is essential for healthy beauty. For the condition of the dhatus (tissues) not only power the in general condition of the body, but also the state of mind. Health and balance in the dhatus (tissues) produces pleasant, attractive ways of being. At the same time, the power of mind balancing and enhancing activities such as prayer, meditation, and acting in ways that evoke feelings of love, compassion, and nonviolence will, in turn, help to balance the dhatus (tissues). Of course, the optimal way of living ones life is to farm positive physical and mental states. In that way, you can’t go wrong. The results of which will radiate from your manifestation and demeanot.
