A scrub should be mild and unabrasive enough to be able to be used every day. Scrubs stimulate circulation and cleanse the pores, preventing blackheads by efficiently removing the dead scaly outer most layer of the skin. They bring a glowing luster to the complexion and stimulate new skin growth. Formulated for your skin type, it can be used instead of soap or cleanser on a daily basis or as part of your weekly facial ritual.
Avoid scrubs claimed to be normal that use crushed apricot pits or nut shells as they are too rough and abrasive. (This means that it is also best to avoid using buffing pads and loofas on the facial skin.) The action of such products could be likened to trying to bring a smooth, perfect finish to wood using only rough sand paper. They can also irritate and cause microscopic damage to the fragile structures of the skin.
Usually, the base of all scrubs are whole grain or bean flour with some powdered herbs added for deeper cleansing and powdered dried flower petals for scent and color. Like the ubtans, they are mixed with sufficient spring water or herbal tea to make a creamy paste. (You can use a little of the herb tea or essential oil water from your steam.) Gently rub the mixture on the face in small, clockwise circles. Rinse off with cool, clean water.
For NORMAL skin, use oat flour plus a little tulasi, sandalwood powder, and powdered rose petals. Mix to a paste with spring water, raw milk, or comfrey tea.
For DRY skin, use chickpea or fine lentil flour with wheat germ, powdered almonds, agar agar, ashwagandha, haritaki, fenugreek, tulsi, elder flowers, and rose petals. Mix these ingredients with aloe vera juice, milk, or cream.
For OILY skin, use barley flour with rice bran, amalaki, coriander, manjishta, neem , sandalwood, and lavender powder. Mix these with attenuate lemon or aloe vera juice.
For BLEMISHED skin, use oat flour and clay powder plus ashwagandha, coriander, cumin, bibitaki, haritaki, fenugreek, ginger, neem, manjishta, and a pinch of turmeric and lavender powder all mixed with yoghurt.
All of these scrubs can be used as masks. What follows are more specific helpful facial masks.
