Cholesterol is a word that creates terror in the mind of people now a days as devastating results have been seen it is seen above the normal levels in the body. In a general terms, it can be describes as dull yellow substance rich in fatty acids, which plays a very essential role in body if present in normal levels. It plays a very important role in bile, a digestive juice required in digestion of fats. It also insulates the nerves via its fatty layer. It helps in transportation of fats in the body. It plays very important role in strengthening the defense mechanism of the body. It helps in protecting red blood corpuscles and the muscular lining in the body. As mentioned earlier, that it helps in fat transportation in the body via blood. It is present in the blood in the form of proteins known as lipoproteins. These are of two types, i.e. low density proteins (LDL) and high density proteins (HDL).

Causes

Following are the causes for disturbed cholesterol levels in the body.

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Consumption of excess of alcohol
  • Smoking is another factor that is involved in disturbed cholesterol level in the body.
  • Obesity or the over weight conditions are also a risk factors in causing troubles in varied cholesterol level in body.
  • Stress or mental pressure also contributes to the raised LDL level in the body.
  • In take of excess diet rich in fats can also cause cholesterol disturbance in body.

Home Remedies

  • it is advised to the person suffering from cholesterol level disturbances to consume about 10 to 15 glasses of water, preferably hot.
  • Use of oat bran has proven its worth in lowering the LDL cholesterol in the body.
  • Application of mud pack over abdominal region improves the digestion of cholesterol in the body and the extra cholesterol present in body is excreted out.
  • Stream bath is also wonderful way of normalizing cholesterol level in the body

Note: hypertensive patient must consult their family physician before taking stream bath.

  • Cold hip baths for 10 minutes is very helpful in lowering the cholesterol level in the body.
  • Isoflavones present in Soya products are important, as they regulate the cholesterol level in body.
  • Consumption of sunflower oil is very beneficial in normalizing cholesterol in body.
  • Regular exercise, morning and evening walks and avoiding easy lifestyles helps regulating the cholesterol in the body.
  • Consumption of food stuff like eggs, cheese, ghee, butter, milk and meat products like organ meat should be checked.
  • Intake of rich fiber diet helps in improving the cholesterol disturbance in the body.
  • Consumption of badaam (almonds) and akhrod (walnut) is very beneficial in lower in the LDL level in the body.
  • Consuming diet rich in choline, inositol and vitamin B 6, present in wheat germ and yeast are very effective method in reducing the cholesterol level in body.
  • Guggulu (Camiphora mukul or Indian bedellium) has been found very effective in lowering cholesterol level I the body.
