Whenever we eat anything the sugar contains of the food gets converted into acid by the bacteria, which is present inside the mouth. It is unlikely that anyone will brush his or her teeth after eating snacks or some sweet dish in between their meals. Hence the teeth and gums remain in contact with acid for a long time and this is what causes various tooth decay and gum diseases. Hence only one thing that we can do is limit our diet in such a way that we eat less food in between our meals and avoid food and drink which is rich in sugar contains.
The important thing to do is to avoid acidic foods and drinks in our diet, so as to prevent tooth decay. The acid formed inside the mouth harms the enamel and also poses great risk for gums. This results in sensitive teeth, which causes pain every time we eat or drink anything too hot or too cold. Hence in order to prevent tooth decay we will need to work on our diet. Our diet should be rich in minerals, vitamins so that it prevents tooth decay and gum diseases. In short having healthy and balanced diet is the only way out for avoiding teeth decay and gum diseases.
What food we should avoid from our diet to prevent teeth decay?
First of all we will need to reduce the intake of sugar and all food items that contains high level of sugars. Processed food should be avoided as such food contains sugar. Hence while buying anything it is wise to read the list of ingredients. That is if we will not buy anything that contains sugar then we will not munch on it in between our meals. We should buy sugar free products and go for sugar free sweeteners whenever we feel like eating sweets.
There are certain drinks that are rich in sugar contains, which we should avoid. Colas, tea and coffee with added sugar, alcohol and lemonade are a strict no-no. Apart form this the problem will get solved if we will not munch on snacks in between our meals. Rather than spending whole day in eating snacks we can just have three full meals. But we can surely eat such things in snacks that are not rich in sugar contains. We can munch on vegetables, fruits, nuts, cheese and bread sticks, as they cannot cause any harm to our teeth and gums.
This doesn’t mean that we will have to leave sugar completely. We will need to just reduce the sugar intake and control eating sweets as much as possible for us. We can surely eat sweet dishes in our main meals. When it comes to drinks water and milk are the best drinks, which can never cause any harm to our teeth. Drinking fruit juices in meal times is also advisable but if we are planning to drink them in between meal times then it is better to dilute them and then have them.
