As you now teeth are nothing but bones and calcium and phosphorus are the two main things that help to make teeth strong. Hence it goes without saying that your food should be rich in calcium and phosphorus.
The food like milk, nuts, cheeses, meats and chicken are rich source of calcium and phosphorus and hence you should include them in your diet in oral health plan. Apart form these food items, fruits like apples and pears and green vegetables are also good for good oral health. The fruits that are high in water content are very good for oral health as they will dilute the sugar contain from it. To reduce the acidity inside the mouth you should eat citrus fruits like lemon and tomatoes during your meals.
The list of food items that you should avoid is very large like, cakes, pies, cookies, muffins, lollipops, mints, potato chips, bread, bananas, raisins and dry fruits. The main reasons behind avoiding eating these food items is, these food items are rich source of sugar and thus can increase the acidity inside the mouth. Stay away from drinking sweetened tea, sugar-containing drinks, lemonade, etc. Also don't drink coffee and tea with added sugar. You can drink as much water as you want. Some people have habit of sipping to sugar-containing juices throughout the day, which is definitely not good diet in oral health.
There are various sugar substitutes in the market, which you can try instead of sugar. Also if you feel like munching something in between your meals, then eat only sugar free products. This keeps your teeth healthy, regardless of what age you are.
