Origin of Ayurveda
In spite of the references of medical system are found in almost all the Vedas, but the main origin of ayurveda is considered from the atharv veda. No doubt ayurveda is the part of athrv veda but it is considered as the upa veda or the supplementation of the athrav veda. It possesses the explanation of a variety of diseases and their cause, and promotes the right diet, lifestyle and behavior regimen to respond to these ailments. according to Hindu mythology. He gave the awareness of Ayurveda to Daksha Prajapati , the king of Himalaya. The Ashwini kumaras then got this information from Him. These were the twin brothers that had got expertise in treatment done according to ayurveda. They then passed the knowledge to Lord Indra. Lord Dhanwantari was then taught the knowledge of ayurveda by Lord Indra to widen this precious knowledge of longevity on the earth and to humans. Sushruta, a very famous surgeon and disciple of lord Dhanwantari, compiled a famous text on surgery known as- the Sushruta Samhita. Charaka also belonging to the medical school of ayurveda complied his knowledge in a famous medicinal text known as the Charaka Samhita .He is believed to have been lived between first century BC to second century AD.
