In normal pregnancies the fertilized egg gets attached to the lines of uterus but in Ectopic pregnancy the fertilized egg gets implanted outside the uterus. In 95% of the Ectopic pregnancies the fertilized egg gets implanted on the fallopian tubes. In remaining cases the fertilized eggs gets attached to the cervix, abdomen or ovary. Ectopic pregnancy is also known as tubal pregnancy or abdominal pregnancy or cervical pregnancy, depending upon the place where the egg gets implanted.
As you know only uterus can expand so as to accommodate the growing baby, as it has enough space in which the baby can grow properly. But other part where the egg gets implanted in Ectopic pregnancy doesn’t have enough space to hold the baby. Hence as the baby grows, the organ that is carrying the baby burst out and thus results in heavy bleeding. This can be really dangerous for the lady having Ectopic pregnancy. The chances of stillbirth are also high in this kind of pregnancy.
