High Pregnancy Risk
High pregnancy risk is a condition in which there are risks either for the mother or for the developing fetus or both. This is caused due to the complications during the pregnancy or after the pregnancy and the birth. There are various factors that cause high pregnancy risk. Women who become pregnant below the age of 15 and above the age of 35 are more prone to get high pregnancy risks. Apart from this other factors causing risks in pregnancy are overweight, height below 5 feet, family history of stillbirth, preterm labor, fetal loss, large baby, small baby and women who are pregnant for more than five times, abnormality in the reproductive system, bleeding during third trimester, fibroids, gestational diabetes, infections of vagina, kidney diseases, AIDS and cancer.
Those women who get diagnosed with high pregnancy risk will need a medical specialist, expert advice and perinatologist(obstetrician). Such women will need to go for regular visits and need close monitoring throughout their pregnancy. They will also have to undergo various tests like blood test, ultrasound observations and fetal monitoring. All these tests are necessary to know whether the fetus is growing normal. The treatment for various conditions is different.
Preventing high pregnancy risk -
It is always good to have a pre-pregnancy check up done, so as to know if you have any medical problem. In case you are detected with some conditions that can be dangerous for both you and your child, like lupus, then the doctor will explain you how much risk is involved in the pregnancy and what all complications can occur in pregnancy. To treat the condition what all medications you will have to take and what all side effects those medicines will cause on you and the baby growing inside you. This way the doctor will help you to decide whether you want to carry on with your pregnancy or not.
In case you will not go for pre-pregnancy check up with your doctor and get pregnant then the condition that might be present in you might pose danger in your pregnancy thus putting your life as well as life of your baby in danger. In case you have any medical condition then it is better to know it in the beginning so that you can take proper medications that will not cause miscarriage in you. For example in case you get diagnosed with thyroid disease during your pregnancy then the doctor will give you such medicines that will not harm you or your child in any way.
There are other medical conditions too like asthma, colitis and epilepsy, which has no effect on pregnancy but these diseases, can get aggravated during pregnancy. Then it can also lead to high pregnancy risk. Hence it is necessary to treat the conditions before deciding on getting pregnant. Those women who has serious conditions like cancer, kidney diseases, AIDs and vaginal infections will also need to take proper medical care so as to prevent any kind of damage to the growth of their baby. There are several ways by which doctors can prevent the diseases from passing from mother or child.
