Pregnancy blood test is necessary during pregnancy, as it helps to know the level of HCG and other pregnancy hormones present in the blood. - Qualitative Pregnancy Blood Test - This kind of blood test just gives the result in yes and no form. Thus this test is very helpful in detecting whether the woman is pregnant or not. This test just finds out the presence or absence of HCG in the blood stream.
- Quantitative Pregnancy Blood Test – As the name suggest, in this kind of test the amount of hCG level is detected. This test can be easily done before one week of the missed period. This test can easily detect even the smaller amounts of the hCG levels. With each passing day after that the hCG levels increases and that is why the result of this test is considered to be very accurate to that of urine test.
Restrictions For Pregnancy Blood Test -
There are chances of getting false pregnancy confirmations in case the hCG levels are present in the blood due to some medicines taken by the woman. SO in case you are taking any kind of medicines then it is better to mention it to your doctor before undergoing the blood pregnancy test. Many fertility treatments use hCG and hence the results of the test might come positive even when the woman is not pregnant. Another restriction for such tests is these tests cannot be done without doctors help. But these tests are not expensive. Almost 99% women undergo these tests to find out whether they are pregnant or not.
The procedure for Pregnancy Blood Test -
This test is not different from a normal blood test. The blood is taken from either the forearm or the back of the hand. The nurse will hold the upper arm tightly and clean the area from where the blood has to be removed with antiseptic and then a needle will be inserted and blood will be collected in a syringe. Then it will be sent to the lab to analyze the presence of hCG levels.
Reports Of Pregnancy Blood Test -
These tests are highly accurate as the doctor performs them. You can undergo for such tests before on week of your due date of period and still get correct results. You can get following two results along with the positive or negative pregnancy report.
- False Negative Results – The results are false in case the test is done too early and the test is unable to detect hCG levels. Hence you should undergo blood tests only when your doctor wants you to.
- False Positive Results – There are chances that the result is positive but you are not actually pregnant. This can happen if you are under any medication duering that time.
