Now is the correct time for the growth of your baby's legs and the legs will grow longer than the hands. In week 16 of your pregnancy, you can easily notice the change in the waist size of yours. There are various maternity clothes that are specially designed to fit the needs of pregnant women in second trimester. You can consider buying them.
In pregnancy week 16, there will be slight movements inside your tummy that you can clearly feel. This is the most precious feeling and you will love this experience throughout your life. This feeling will be in a manner same like butterflies flying inside your tummy. But many pregnant women feel their baby moving inside their tummy after week 20. Hence in case you are still not getting any movements inside your tummy, there is no need to feel bad or sad. In case of those who are in their second and third pregnancies, the movements of the baby will be sooner. In this week your doctor will advice you to undergo AFP test, in which your blood sample will be taken by the doctor. IF high levels of alpha-fetoprotein are present in the blood, this can indicate some kind of problem with the fetus like certain risks to spinal cord
If the result of AFP test comes positive then the doctor will check the fetus carefully using ultrasound. But there is no need to worry, as this problem can be fixed. The doctor will insert small needle through your tummy and take out some amount of amniotic fluid. This procedure can create risks of miscarriage, spotting or leakage of amniotic fluid. This treatment is called as amniocentesis and it can also detect the sex of your baby. In fact it can detect the sex of the baby more accurately than the ultrasound. But as there are various risks involved in this test, doctors avoid using this method to find the sex of the fetus.
