Pregnancy Week 21
In pregnancy week 21, your baby will be 7 inches long and will be of 10 ounces in weight. The length of your baby will be same as that of a banana. The growth of your baby will continue getting faster and faster with each passing day now. But on an average the growth of baby will slow down a bit in this week. The baby will grow and develop at a relatively slow rate. The central nervous system and other body organs of your baby will develop and continue getting matured in pregnancy week 21. The digestive system of your baby will also be under developing stage and getting ready to get matured. But still the digestive system is doing some nominal work in 21st week of pregnancy. The intestine is also learning to contract and relax. The baby can fluently swallow and absorb the fluids through the amniotic fluid now.
There is no need to get worried thinking your baby is swallowing the amniotic fluid, as this will only make their digestive system matured. In this week itself your baby will start getting hiccups. You too will notice it and your will feel some movements in your tummy. Hiccups are common thing that will happen to your baby and there is no need to worry at all. This is in no way indication that your baby is in discomfort. Fetal hiccups are common thing that starts happening from the second trimester. Hiccups are like a rhythmic and repetitive movement that will occur few times in a day. You will like the way your tummy movements will occur. Many pregnant women just love this feeling, as in a way it is an indication that their baby is fine.
Here also it is not a rule that all babies will get hiccups in the same week of pregnancy. Some pregnant women might not notice their baby's hiccups but there is no need to get scared, as within few weeks you too will notice the hiccups of your baby. You might notice your baby hiccups four to five times in a day, as you will progress further in your pregnancy. Your tummy is very big by now but still in coming weeks you will find it more difficult to manage your weight. Now at least you can enjoy the movement and freedom but soon there will be more restrictions on your movements. That is the reason why second trimester is the best time in the overall nine months of the pregnancy.
In pregnancy week 21, you will start getting pains in your leg, as your body weight is more and this puts extra pressure on your legs. Varicose veins are also common condition during pregnancy in the second trimester. In case the leg aches are causing discomfort and you think that there is swelling also then you should consult your doctor. While sitting down try to provide proper support to your legs. You can control the aches and the swelling by doing some comfortable exercises. Don’t spend your day in just sitting; go out of the house at least 15 minutes walk is also must during pregnancy.
