Pregnancy Week 23
In pregnancy week 23, your baby is about one pound in weight and will be about 8 inches to 11 inches long. The baby will be enough big by now and you will find it strange that so soon your baby has completed 23 weeks. Your baby will continue undergoing various changes. The skin of your baby is still red and will have various wrinkles on the skin. Your baby can hear everything clearly by now. Hence when you will be in a place where loud noise is there, your baby will also start reacting to the voice. You will feel continue baby movements inside your body in pregnancy week 23. The baby's ears will also start developing further with the bones starting to form in the middle ear. The baby's head will be in proper proportion with the rest of its body now.
In case your baby gets delivered in this week itself, there is very small chance of he or she being survived. Hence it is good that the baby stays in your womb and completes the full term of pregnancy that is nine months. Any baby who gets delivered in the 23re or 24th week has 10 to 70 percent chance of surviving. These babies are called as premature babies. There are many examples in which the baby has delivered in the 23rd week with weight of just one pound who survived and lived a normal life. But there are many who could not survive and died due to certain complications. There are high chances that the babies will survive but will have some mental or motor disabilities.
As much your baby will stay inside you tummy that much more chances your baby will have of survival. The survival rate in weeks 23 rd to week 26th is just 3%. But post the 26th week the survival rate is above 80%. In case of premature deliveries there are various things that decides the survival rate of your child. Female babies have more rate of survival compared to the male baby, as female fetus matures fast compared to the male fetus. Your uterus will be 1.5 inches above your belly button in pregnancy week 23. Your belly button also continues to extend. Your baby will get enough space to move inside your tummy due to the expanded uterus. The baby movements will be quite strong by now. You can clearly see your stomach moving and will feel the movements many times in a day.
In pregnancy week 23, you will have many mood swings. You will also enjoy this time as you can clearly see your tummy moving. You will feel very eager to hold your baby in your hand. The baby will also love this time, as there is lot of space inside the womb where the baby can freely move. You can include your partner also when you next time see your tummy moving.
