Pregnancy Week 26
In pregnancy week 26, your baby is about 2 pounds in weight and its crown to rump length is about 9 inches to 10 inches while the total length is about 12 inches. Your baby will keep on adding fat to its bones but the fat accumulation will be more in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Your baby's heart will also keep on developing and getting matured with each passing day. With the help of Doppler you can easily hear your baby's heartbeats. With the help of stethoscope you can clearly hear your baby's heartbeats. The baby can respond to sound more clearly now due to the growth of the nerve pathways. Hence you will feel your baby jumping each time it hears loud noise.
You can play some soothing music to comfort your baby. Make your partner talk to your baby; this will help the baby to recognize your partner's voice too. Baby will continue doing breathing inside the amniotic fluid. In case you are having baby boy, then the growth of baby boy starts happening more from this week onwards. In pregnancy week 26, your uterus will be about 2.5 inches above your belly button. The growth of uterus will happen continuously without any break. Your weight gain will also happen quickly now. But there is no need to check your weight daily, as there may be some fluctuations in your weight due to the water retention of the body. It is good to check your weight on a weekly basis.
In pregnancy week 26, the back pain, leg pain and lower abdominal pain will be more due to the continue growth of your tummy. Try to stretch your legs as much as possible, or else you will get leg cramps. To ensure good growth of your baby, eat right kind of food so that your baby gets right kind of nutrients required for its growth. Make sure you don’t perform risky exercises as you might injure yourself badly. The changed levels of hormones in your body can create major complication even if you get minor injury during this week onwards. If you are getting frequent migraine attacks then consult your doctor but headaches is a common side effect of pregnancy. There is no need to take any kind of painkiller without the consent of your doctor.
You might even get discomfort in your ribs or in the lower abdomen. As you baby is growing and getting stronger with each passing day, your uterus is getting pressed against your ribs and lower abdomen and this is causing the discomfort. It is better to change your positions more than often and avoid sitting or standing in one position for long time. Changing your position will also reduce the pressure on the uterus and thus make you comfortable all over again. The blood pressure will also increase as compared with the last few pregnancy weeks. In case you get swelling in your hands or face, blurred vision, headaches, abdominal pain or sudden weight gain then you should consult your doctor, as these are the signs that show your blood pressure has increased.
