Pregnancy Week 37
In pregnancy week 37, your baby will be 6.5 pounds in weight and about 21 inches in height. As you have entered in the 37th week of pregnancy, which is believed to be the beginning of the final stages of pregnancy, you will feel delighted. Now any time you can go under labor and will get to see your baby. Week 37 to week 41 is believed to be the full term gestation periods and hence the delivery can happen anytime now. Your baby is gaining weight and hence now there are good chances that your baby will not be underweight. The fat layers will also add on your baby's skin and it will protect the baby in its initial few days when the baby will not get the warmth of your womb.
In pregnancy week 37, you can be happy now, as your baby will be born as a healthy baby. Now onwards you will not notice any further growth in your uterus. In this week your uterus will be about 6.5 inches above your belly button. The size of the uterus will not change until your baby comes in this world. Till now you might have gained about 35 pounds of weight. In case you are loosing few pounds then also no need to worry, as it is very normal thing when women reach in the 37th week of pregnancy. Your doctor will give you proper guideline regarding when you should call them or when you should come hospital, etc. Your doctor will once again have an ultrasound done and will give you the final due date in case there are any changes in the initial due date given by the doctor. Your doctor will also ensure that your vagina has no bacteria or else it might infect your baby during the delivery process. In case the bacteria infect the baby, then doctor will be ready with antibiotics to give your baby post its birth. Such kinds of infections are called as group B infections and such infections can cause sepsis, meningitis, and pneumonia in babies. There are chances that the baby will start showing the symptoms of bacterial infection after one week of delivery too.
For this reason doctor will check your vagina in the pregnancy week 37, so as to avoid group B infections in baby. Your doctor will provide you antibiotics, in case group B infection is present in you. This way the infection will not get spread from you to the baby. In case you have developed fever during pregnancy then there are high chances of you getting group B infections. There are various researches are going on to find the proper solution to treat the group B infections.
