Prickly heat rashes are really painful and irritating. They are generally caused when sweat gets collected in certain body parts and results in red bumps on the surface of the skin.
It mostly affects the areas under arms, at the back, near chest and waist. These rashes may hit the people of any age; even small children get affected with this problem when their body sweat does not dry out easily. The major causes are stressful style of living, smoking, drinking excess amount of alcohol, etc. Junk food and untimely eating can also result in this problem. Other causes include food poisoning, acidity and cancer.
Home remedies to reduce the problem of prickly heat
Talcum powder – Apply non perfumed or herbal powders after bathing. They will soak up extra moisture and protect the body from itching heat. One can apply talcum 4 to 5 times a day so that body remains free from moisture and sweat. Some herbal lotions and ointments are also available in the market these days, which can be helpful in soothing the affected parts.
Ice cubes – Ice cubes are also an effective remedy to provide a calming effect when rashes are caused due to humid and hot temperature. Rub few ice cubes on the bulges that appear on the skin. They will lessen the irritation and will help in puncturing the swelling.
Oatmeal – Add small amount of oatmeal powder in a bath tub and mix it well. Take a bathe in this tub to get fast relief from tenderness.
Gram flour (besan) – Apply gram flour paste over red bulges and allow it to dry. After that, wash it with cold water. This will help in eradicating dead skin and easing inflammation.
Sandalwood paste – Take equal quantity of sandalwood and coriander powder and mix them well. Add some rose water to make a paste out of it. Apply the paste over rashes and let it dry. Clean it with water. This will provide soothing relief from itching and swelling.
Multani mitti or Fuller’s earth – Prepare a thick pack out of fuller’s earth and rose water. Apply it on the areas where one finds itching or swelling. Allow it to dry and then wash it with water.
Wet sponge – Take a sponge or cotton cloth and soak it in cold water. Place the cloth over red bulges until all the water does not get absorbed. Repeat the process 2 to 3 times a day. One can also add some amount of oatmeal in the water.
Neem – Take few Neem leaves and prepare a paste by grinding them and mixing with water. Consider applying it on affected skin and let it dry. Wash it with water after some time.
