Why Vitamins are bad for you?
Few people may wonder how the vitamins can be bad for health. In fact these are not the vitamins that may be bad, but too much intake of vitamins in the form of supplement pills can be bad.
Vitamins are actually essential to maintain good health, growth and development. The research on vitamins has been proved successful till now. In the year 1905, the first type of vitamin was revealed by Dr. William Fletcher. He studied the process of nutrition and realized that white rice was lacking in some special thing. People who were eating brown rice remained healthy, while the people who were eating polished rice were down with a disease named Beriberi. Finally, he concluded that it was vitamin B which was lacking in polished rice. In the past, British sailors also used to suffer from a disease called scurvy due to the deficiency of vitamin C. Similarly there were many other diseases that beset the people in the past; but now with the development of nutritional science, many vitamins are revealed to cure those diseases.
Overdose of Vitamins
Too much intake of vitamins and its supplements can be bad for health. It can be really toxic if someone consumes any vitamin in excess amount than the recommended amount on its package. This article will really help one to find out what problems can be caused when any vitamin is taken in excess.
Vitamin A – When the vitamin A is taken in excess amount, it may result in mood swings, severe abdominal pain, decreased appetite and exhaustion. If the proper care is not given immediately, it can lead to many serious problems concerning the liver.
Vitamin D – It may prove to be a blunder when this vitamin is consumed in excess. This vitamin is considered as a good cure for a disease known as rickets. However its overdose can lead to many problems which are even worse than rickets. It may lead to excess calcium deposits in the heart, lungs and kidneys. Symptoms include muscle loss, bone pain, extreme fatigue and unexpected weight loss.
Vitamin E – Excessive dose of this vitamin may cause stomach cramps and diarrhea. It also increases the risk of bleeding as excessive intake of vitamin E can obstruct the process of blood clotting. In some cases, people may also require some medication to stop bleeding problems.
Vitamin K – Newborns are more prone to the overdose of vitamin K. Mothers have to take care that they do not give excess supplements of vitamin K to their children. It may lead to problems such as jaundice and profuse sweating. The skin of the child may turn dark pink.In conclusion, it is only a matter of amount of dose that decides whether vitamins are good or bad for health. People should avoid taking extra vitamin supplement pills. They should improve their eating habits and should take only the necessary vitamins in correct amount from the healthy food materials.
